Codebahn

When not to use Codebahn

We would rather tell you up front than have you find out after signing up.

Your project is open source

Use Codeberg. Free, EU-hosted, run by a non-profit. We recommend them by name and mean it. Same Forgejo foundation, different jobs. Codebahn is for private and commercial work.

Your procurement requires SOC 2 Type II today

We do not have it yet. GitLab Dedicated EU has the signed audit reports. If your procurement gates on those, use them. We will get there; we are not there now.

You depend on a deep marketplace

Codebahn keeps a small, curated integration surface: webhooks, Slack, Discord, Element, Mattermost. If your workflows depend on hundreds of GitHub Marketplace actions or a specific third-party integration, you will miss them here. Stay where you are.

You need Windows or macOS hosted runners

We run Linux VMs on EU infrastructure. We do not host Windows or macOS runners. You can bring your own alongside our hosted runners, but if you need managed non-Linux CI, we are not your vendor.

Your budget is zero

Codebahn has no free tier. If you want managed Git at no cost, self-host Forgejo on Hetzner. A CX22 is about €4/month, and the self-hosting guide walks you through it. Your weekends, your call.

What switching costs

We import repositories with full history, issues, and pull requests from GitHub, GitLab, and self-hosted Forgejo. Most Actions workflows work with minimal changes. We document the differences so you can plan before you move. If anything needs manual attention during import, email us and a human helps.

When Codebahn is the right call

You have a small team, you ship private or commercial code, and you care where it lives. You want managed Git that does fewer things and does them properly, on infrastructure you can name, from a company that answers to EU law. You want to be able to leave in one click, any time, with everything.
