Bitbucket alternative for EU teams
Bitbucket Server reached end of life on February 15, 2024. No more security patches. Atlassian is pushing teams to Bitbucket Cloud or Data Center. Data Center requires a 25-user minimum license and your own infrastructure. Cloud locks SSO behind a paid add-on (Atlassian Guard, from $4.20/user/month).

Bitbucket Cloud is tightly integrated with Jira, Confluence, and the Atlassian ecosystem. If your team depends on those integrations, Bitbucket is the right choice. If you need Git hosting with CI and EU jurisdiction without the Atlassian platform, Codebahn covers that.
When to stay on Bitbucket
- Your workflows depend on Jira integration (branch creation from tickets, automatic transitions, development panels). Codebahn has no Jira connector.
- You use Bitbucket Pipes extensively. Codebahn uses GitHub Actions syntax, not Bitbucket Pipelines YAML.
- Your procurement requires SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 today. Bitbucket has both. We are not there yet.
- You need Bitbucket Data Center for air-gapped or on-premises hosting. Codebahn is cloud-only.
- You need built-in code review with Atlassian's approval workflows. Codebahn has PR reviews, but the approval model is simpler.

Moving from Bitbucket Server
Bitbucket Server support ended February 15, 2024. Running it without patches is a security risk. Data Center is the self-managed alternative, but it requires a 25-user minimum license and your own infrastructure.
Codebahn is a third option: managed hosting with no infrastructure to run. Import your repositories with git push --mirror. Branches, tags, and full history carry over.
What changes when you move
Git repositories import cleanly. Clone from Bitbucket, push to Codebahn. Branches, tags, and commit history carry over in full.
Bitbucket Pipelines YAML does not carry over. Codebahn uses GitHub Actions syntax (.github/workflows/). Rewriting pipelines is the main migration effort. Simple build-test-deploy pipelines convert in an hour; complex pipelines with Pipes may take longer.
Pull request history, issues, and inline comments do not have an automated import path from Bitbucket. If preserving that history matters, export it via the Bitbucket REST API before migrating. For most teams, starting fresh on Codebahn with the code history intact is sufficient.
Jira integration does not exist on Codebahn. If your workflow depends on Jira ticket transitions from branch names or PR merges, that link breaks. Use Codebahn's built-in issue tracker or connect an external tracker via webhooks.
